Day 252 The first time I have managed two buses in a day since last October both in NE quarter of London the No 376 and 377.

Having got the bus to East Croydon I caught the 133 Thameslink Bedford service to London Bride and then the Jubilee line to Canning Town arriving around midday. I climbed to the platforms above and had 4 minutes to wait for the Docklands Light Railway service to Beckton. So at 1229 I was at the end of the line ready to cross over to the bus station opposite where the No 376 begins from.

Service just under quarter hourly

The count down display showed I might have 28 minutes to wait but in fact whilst I was still discussing whether to nip into ASDA London General's See118 appeared in front of me.

So at 1236 the bus was on its way soon turning right down Woolwich Manor Way. A little way down this road the bus turned hard left and entered a recently built estate-the Winsor Estate as the sole route. This estate had strange road names light Horseleaze and Warwall. Having done a circuit of the estate the bus returned to Woolwich Manor Way and turned left to a roundabout before going right down Ferndale Street. By this means I reached Cyprus DLR station by bus. Thereafter the bus ran parallel with the DLR embankment along Strait Road once again on its own with Beckton Park on the other side.

Passing Beckton Park

We followed the southern part of the park and then taking Stansfeld Road we ran up the western side of Beckton Park and at the end of this road the bus took the left into Tollgate Road which enabled the bus to cross over the A12 at Prince Regent Lane.

Tollgate Road Newham

As we continued up Prince Regent Lane we took the right turn into Glen Road to go past Newham Hospital and past this to access Boundary Road which runs up to Barking Road.

We passed the statue of Bobby Moore holding the world cup as we ran past the Boleyn pub and up Green Lane to Upton Park Underground station. Soon after that station the bus turned right into Plashet Grove and this enabled the bus to reach East Ham High Street. The bus turned right here and then took the one way bypass of Ron Leighton Way to return to Barking Road. The bus terminated at Newham Town hall by going around three sides of it and I disembarked at 1318.

I then walked to East Ham Underground station and went East the one stop to Barking so as to catch the 'Goblin' line now Suffragette line to Black Horse Road at 1329. I changed there onto the Victoria line one stop to Tottenham Hale and on emerging onto the main line station found I had missed by five minutes the train to Ponders End so had to wait 25 minutes for the Hertford East train which is first stop Ponders End and only takes five minutes. From the railway station I had to walk to the Glyn Road stop this took me 17 minutes and just as I approached Arriva London's EMN2 passed with a No 377 heading for Oakwood. I thus had almost half an hour to await the next service.

Half hourly service, which I had just missed

At 1516 I was aboard EMN4 at Glyn Road which is all but opposite Ponders End bus garage. The bus heads east at first and then soon turns right down the A1010 Ponders End High Street. Just beyond the recreation ground the bus announced it was the start of Lincoln Road Hail and Ride section and the bus turned right down a fairly arrow road given all the parked cars. After going under the railway bridge the bus entered the Great Cambridge industrial estate and we were soon turned left onto the A10 dual carriageway.

Attempting to cross the Great Cambridge Road

The bizarrely named Private Road
Here the bus attempted to cross the dual carriageway where there are no traffic signals, so at some times of the day it must be really difficult to do this manoeuvre. This allowed the bus to access Trinity Avenue which lead us to Bush Hill Park station where we took First and then Park Avenue. Turning right up Wellington Road at 1529 the bus was able to turn left into a road called Private Road, which is indeed a Public Road; I assumed perhaps there is a Sergeant Road and Warrant Officer Drive somewhere. The bus took Village road which ended at London Road which lead to the Dugdale Centre where the bus turned left and headed for Enfield Chase station arriving at 1539. Beyond the station the bus went up Windmill Hill and then Slades Hill as does the No 121 or No 307 but at the roundabout at Bincote Road the bus turned off left with the No 456. This road becomes World End Lane but on reaching a school the bus went right as a Hail and Ride along Lonsdale Road which took the bus past Boxers Lake. By this time it was becoming very gloomy so my picture has reflections in it.

The bus climbs up from Lonsdale Road along Kenwood Road and the led to Prince George Avenue which we followed to reach Oakwood Piccadilly line station where we terminated at 1550.

From here it was easy to catch a Piccadilly line train to Finsbury Park where I had only a few minutes wait for a Brighton train to return me to East Croydon where I met up with our son and took a No 410 bus home
